New Year’s Breakfast a la Winston Churchill
Let us be the first to wish you a happy and healthy 2015. You’re no doubt counting down the hours until you can begin ringing in the new year with friends and family. As you gear up for a great night, we ask that you remember to drink responsibly and to plan your safe ride home before the night’s events begin to unfold. After all, any idea can sound good after a few drinks – it’s the plans made while still sober that should control the conclusion of your fun times ahead.
Which brings us to the real topic of today’s blog. While you’ve certainly nailed down your plans for the evening by now, we thought we’d instead focus on your plans for tomorrow morning, which is less known for fresh starts than it is for being the International Day of Hangovers. For our inspiration, we’ve chosen the imbiber of historical proportions, Mr. Winston Churchill.
It might seem an urban legend, but evidence exists that in June of 1954, displeased with the meal offerings on flight to America, Churchill wrote down his preferred breakfast for the ride. The Churchill menu has all the trappings you’re likely to need tomorrow.
The Churchill Breakfast, to be served on two trays:
-Tray One
- Poached egg,
- Toast,
- Jam,
- Butter,
- Coffee and milk,
- Jug of cold milk,
- Cold Chicken or Meat.
-Tray Two
- Grapefruit,
- Sugar Bowl,
- Glass orange squash (ice),
- Whisky soda.’
Finally, at the end of the note he adds: “Wash hands, cigar.”
I don’t know about you, but I think that’s what a proper New Year’s Day morning deserves, and perhaps requires.
